Ok so i had a hen go broody about two weeks ago. About a month in a half ago one of my hens hatched out chicks. Well i let all my chickens freerange when i got home. I had to go get them out from under the front porch. I got two out from under there but i found out that the one that was is broody know was under the porch and rose the one raising the chicks was sitting on her eggs acting broody she buffed and pecked like she was broody so what im asking is, is this alright. There is another one of my hens that has taken up the responsibility of protecting the chicks from the other chickens and my drake.

That is very odd. I have never heard of that. If the chicks are being kept warm, protected and well fed, and if the broody is in good shape (not too thin) then they should be alright.

Best of luck to you!

Thx the chicks are doing well i dont really have to worry about the warmth of the chicks because they have belly and wing feathers and its stays pretty warm here. I will definitely keep a good eye on the chicks thouge. The two broodys are healthy. If they both stay broody i will divide the eggs up. Ga broodys gotta make everything diffacult!;-)

That's a neat picture.

We had a hen, Susie, who hatched out four bantam chicks at about the same time that our silkie, Princess, did. Susie abandon them (practically, if they were in trouble she came running) at around 3 weeks of age, slightly early for chickens.
Princess sort-of adopted them. If they screamed, she ran over. She would call them over for food and look after them. They weren't too sure of her, but I thinks he gave them comfort. It was really sweet of her. She even slept in their nesting areas a few times. She helped one that was partially paralyzed, trying to protect it and sleeping in the crate near it.

I never knew hens would adopt babys after they were a day old exspecially if they did not go broody first. Susie is beautiful for the longest time i looked for silkies or mixes of silkies. Only for the broodiness and there cute aswell but apparently my girls are pretty broody witch is unexpected.

I had a leghorn go broody! Her name is Sandy and she raised up three lovely babies.

Sandy's three chicks, including Ocean (in the middle) a chick that apparently is pare naked-neck, and that is why she is partially bald. She grew up fully feathered, however
