broody kicked hatching egg from nest

This is my first year with adult chickens.(started coop last spring) This morning I noticed an egg with a foot kicking about 12 inches from my broody's nest. Is it normal for the chicks to hatch off the nest out from under the hen? maybe the kicking foot agitated the hen? I took it inside to the bator and it finished hatching.
