OK all my chick moms I am in desperate need of help so I have a girl that has been broody for about 2 to 3 weeks. I did everything in the world to break her and was not successful. I tried all the normal things change your body temperature do this do that move her locker and away from the other chickens, all of that, and so finally, I decided, I would go buy baby chicks. The feed store had the same exact kind of chicken. They were only one day old so I spent the night in the coop I put the babies under her around 10 o'clock last night. We actually woke up when the sun came up this morning it did not appear as though she was going to kill them so I left her alone figured maybe I was freaking her out and that's why she wouldn't come out into the wrong that I have separated her from but it's weird so she's awake. She's not killing them but she also isn't coming out and going into her separate run that I made for her she staying in one place so here is a video. I'm not sure if she still broody or if this is normal behavior OK so never mind it's not gonna let me send a video so I just kind of sent two pictures

She also scoops them under her wings though, so if they start moving around too much, she will circle around in the box and Scooch them back under her but it's also like she's still trying to pack her feathers out from underneath of her self. I figured she would stop doing that once they were born.

She sounds like she's just being a broody hen. Did you take away any eggs she was on?

A hen will continue to sit on the nest for a few days after the chicks hatch. She needs to give them time to get stronger than they are when they come out of the egg. If she is pulling them back under her she is accepting them. The chicks can go a couple days without feed or water. There is the difference with how old they really are and how old she thinks they are so a little feed and water next to them might be a good idea.

Even though you have given your broody feed store chicks, she is exhibiting the normal broody behaviors of a hen that has hatched her own eggs. When a broody hatches her own chicks, she usually waits 24-48 hours before bringing them out of the nest box. However, adopted feed store chicks are old enough that they need to eat and drink. I solve this problem by placing a chick feeder and waterer near the broody hen. That way the chicks can come out from under their new mom to eat and drink, then go back under her for warmth. By tomorrow, your broody will likely bring the chicks out.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much I know for sure the chicks are one day old and I do have food and water in there. She actually came out of the nesting box and has been laying in front of it and she has been packing and eating at that food and drinking the water and so are the babies they're eating and drinking as well, and yes, whenever they are moving around, she will stay very low to the ground circles around them and scoops them back up under her wings they do not get very far away from her...... also, if she was going to kill them, would she have done that already by now?

Oh my gosh thank you so much I was so scared I was like do I need to sleep in the coop again tonight like is she gonna wake up tomorrow and want to kill them because she still acting like she's broody but they definitely have food and water, and both her and the chicks are eating and drinking the food But they definitely run back up under her and she stays hovered close to the ground and whenever they get a little bit too far, she'll spread her wing and scoops them back up under her. I was just afraid that she was still broody and like tomorrow morning I would come out here and they would be dead and I know for sure they were one day old .

Thank you so much I am starting to feel so much better. I was wondering if I still needed to worry about her being broody if she was going to kill them would she have already done that by now?
