I have a Muscovy who has been sitting on eggs for what seems like forever. Today I turned around and there was an egg in the pen near her that hadn't been there seconds before. It was partially open and there was a duckling beak and head showing. The beak was moving. I picked it up and put it back near her and she immediately tossed it away again. Does anyone know what is going on?

I don't know, really, but i hope someone can help.

I suspect you just might need to wait and see what happens--even if that means the baby is lost............

Of course, if you had another broody with similar aged eggs, you could also slip that one under her.......

or some other good mother bird around who has 'vacancies'............

I found it dead about 5 feet from the nest.
