Broody now!

My lil' BA is just one week ahead of your BO, and mine has just 4 eggs in her clutch. This is a first time hen-hatching for me! I'm so eggcited, I actually go to her nest and feed her treats by hand, since she's not wandering and coming out to me during my daily gardening chores.

Whoohoo, me too!

One of my hens went broody yesterday and is sitting on 15 eggs right now and is showing no signs of breaking!

She's a first time mom, and is one of my chicks that we hatched from the lead hen last year and we are all so jazzed that we're going to have chicks again!

I'm getting pics tomorrow of the new mom if she won't fluff up and sound like a velociraptor every time that I check on her.

I did have to take her off of the nest to eat and poop and while she bit hard enough to almost draw blood, she couldn't even stand once she was down so I put her right at the feed bin and dd got the water and put it next to her and she ate and drank, then got enough energy to get up, take a quick dustbath, preen and then head back up where the lead hen had taken over babysitting duties, and the new mom didn't know what to think about another hen sitting on HER eggs!!

So, after several attempts to get back on her eggs, I took pity on the poor girl and took the lead hen off the clutch, put her in the next nestbox and then new mom could go back up and pancake the clutch to her heart's content.

I'm so glad I've got hatching buddies this time around!

Hi hatching buddy!

Maranatha is just a mutt EE, but I think she has pretty coloring.

I would love to have some turkeys but I just don't have the room in the coop yet, someday soon I might talk DH into building another coop..

She's sitting on a lot of EE and banty eggs, some of them are even green!
She's still up on the nest and I made sure to mark the eggs when I got her out yesterday and so far, so good!

Going to get pics after the kiddos finish up thier schoolwork, so hopefully I'll get them on here before tonight.

I think my little serama hen Molly, has gone broody. Last night she slept on the nest...she was up this morning, but I found her back on the nest when I went home for lunch. If she's on that nest when I go home from work today, she's most likely broody and I'm popping a couple of my serama eggs, that I have inside, under her butt!
