8 weeks ago I bought a mama hen with 12 chicks which she adopted and hatched. Mama is a 5 year old silkie orp x and has been adopting eggs for years. She has just weaned her chicks and is sitting in the coop squaking at any hen or chick that comes near and won't let them inside. I'm guessing she's gone broody again? I'm not sure what to do with her - I have an option to give her back but she's a cool feisty mama that I would like to keep but I'm not cool with her not allowing the others to go in. Can I move her somewhere more private and let her be? Will she just stay broody until she gets some fertile eggs? Thanks.

I dunno? I'm thinking if you seperated her from the flock but kept her close so she can see the others, kind of what you do with an aggressive hen. Do that for a few days and maybe that will reset her and her order?

If you brought her and her chicks into the flock she hasn't had time to find her place in the pecking order of your flock yet while protecting chicks. Give it a little time things will probably settle down and broodys can take some time to get back to normal after raising chicks. things will probably settle down once she figures out her place in the new flock.Only time will tell you if she fitting in or just a grouchy chicken.
