Alas, it that time of year. I have my second one for Spring. I have had a whole breeding pen broody at one time. I guess I need to set up the broody pens and let them hatch a few. I completely gave up on breaking up broodiness. I have done it but within a month they would be that way again. I figure just go ahead and let them hatch a few and were back in the egg laying buisness in 7 weeks. Anyone esles getting broody at this time.

Me too. I cheated and gave them chicks from the incubator. They sorta stunk at the hatching thing.

I'm on my 4th araucana broody already and have 2 buff orp broodies clucking now. When I was collecting eggs, I found a black orp roo in the nest box. I hope he's not going broody on me...silly boy!

My itty bitty Rosecomb Bantam girl - Silver Chick is broody, she just turned a year in March. She makes the most unearthly incredibly loud noises when another chicken gets near her......scared the snot out of me the first time I heard it. Have never heard a noise even close to it out of another broody.

Also my little red Cochin hen is now complaining again when I gather eggs - a good sign she is thinking about setting up house.

*sigh* I love a broody

Love the broody hens, I had an australorps hen try to reach into a baby cage we kept in the big hen house because it was warm at night in there with the heat lamp on . she tried to lure the already quite big babies whos were vaccinated weeks earlier to her by pecking in the sawdust then gently wrapping her head around the baby and trying to pull it close to her, she did this over and over.I moved the pen away from the roost bar so she wouldnt do this all day, she paced under the table for days after that with the broody noise they make pluck pluck pluck..love that.

I have had two threatening but they won't stay put on eggs yet. They run around screaming, skittish, puffing up and yelling at everyone. Wish one of them would get real here. One if a Buff Orpington, one is a barred EE. I actually need a broody about now. I like to let them sit, too, Julie. Breaking them up never seems to really work for me.
