Broody Pullet(s)

Kind of an update, but not much change.

The 3 remaining chicks are about a week old (depending on how you count it).

Ameraucana is still the primary caretaker.

Austra White still wants to be involved. She also isn't sure if she wants to be broody, since she has no chicks to care for. She changes between sleeping on the floor, nest, and roosts.

So, the momma birds won't leave the coop (I put chick food and a waterer in there last week) so the chicks haven't gone outside.
A couple days ago, one of the chicks ended up outside (in the run) and it was surprisingly hard to catch. Neither of the moms went out for it.
I put the Austra White out and closed her out for maybe a minute (since she wants to raise them so bad, figured this was her chance for one). I didn't see if she went up to it since it was a solid wall I was staring at, but she was only interested in the ones in the coop.
Eventually caught the chick and put it in the coop. No problems getting back with the broodies.

Picture is from last week (they seem to be growing slow. Pullet eggs were about medium sized)

Yesterday, 2 chicks ended up in the run (how fun to try and catch them...)

Today when I was ending free-range time, happily surprised to see all 3 chicks and the 2 moms in the run, enjoying the dirt.
Moved the food and water out for them.
The ramp into the coop is about a foot long, so they could navigate it if they could figure it out.

Somehow, the chicks were all back in the coop for the night. Not sure how they did that, but that's great.
(Under the ameraucana, of course)

Austra White was in the nest boxes... and there was another broken egg under her.
As you can imagine, I'm getting... a little concerned?
I think it was just 1 this time. Both times, the one that was soaked into the shavings was a white egg (I have 2 white egg layers) so I don't know if there's a fluke with the eggshell suddenly, or if she's the cause.

I have occasionally had some eggs break because they hit another egg or something hard. A few thin shells, too.
At least up until now, I haven't had any egg eaters in this young flock. So I'm hoping this isn't the start of one.

As far as the Austra White's behavior, is anybody familiar with this situation? New broody, hatched eggs, has all the chicks stolen from her. And now is caught between trying to care for them during the day, and wanting to hatch eggs at night.

What do you think?

Pic from today. The chicks are...10 days old? Doing well. They all stick pretty close.
The moms don't leave the run during free-range time (smart)
Today, they saw a dog next to the fence. The two moms flipped out and tried to defend/attack. So I'm feeling like they'll do a decent job of trying to protect the chicks against, say, a cat.

(Wood "chicken playground" in background.)

Aaaand another pullet went broody today. Golden Cuckoo Marans. (And since there were no noticeable signs, I didn't save any of her eggs. One of the original hatched chicks was from her, but I don't know if it's one that made it or not.)
Of course, had to pick the popular extra large nesting box. Funny enough, this pullet doesn't have a favorite nesting box?

*to clarify something from previous post. The dog had no access to the birds, and the birds didn't attack the dog. The chicks were close to the fence where the dog was on the other side, so the mommas didn't like that.*

Gave these 3 eggs to the broody Golden Cuckoo Marans late tonight.
(These eggs have pencil marks, in case other eggs sneak in)
She has been jumping between 2 nests, but hasn't set any eggs. Just ceramic nest eggs.

Cockerel is a Black Ameraucana (father of the chicks in above posts)

- Green/blue egg is from a Crested Cream Legbar

- Cream/tan egg is from my Barred Plymouth Rock (One of the previous hatched chicks was from her. I just don't know if it was her pullet that survived, or if it was the Golden Cuckoo Marans' pullet that survived...)

- Brown egg should be my Rhode Island Red

I think we got another one.
My flighty little Crested Cream Legbar has been somewhat broody for two days.

If she seems broody enough, I'll split the existing nest (3 eggs, been set for a week) between the two of them.
That'll put her at setting for 2 weeks instead of 3, and less chicks will be hatching.

There goes all my blue egg producers.
I had one more.... but she turned into a cockerel (and has fathered the little chickies flapping about).

Pic was taken today. The 3 chicks with the 2 moms.

Broody Golden Cuckoo Marans seemed hot, so I put a frozen water bottle in a thin towel (flour sack towel or something like that?) And found a way to hang it so it couldn't get near the eggs, but she could get some of the cold from it.
(There's a "cold therapy" ice machine type thing for injuries where you can put water + frozen water bottles in. So we just always have frozen bottles in case.)

I haven't been the one to close the birds in at night for a little bit, so I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but yesterday the Ameraucana wasn't snuggling the chicks. She tried to sleep in the nesting box. So I pushed her out.
This evening, she tried to sleep in there again. But before I could move her, some of the birds freaked out and she removed herself to check on the chicks? (I left quick to give them space.)
When I went back, she had put herself up to roost and the chicks were back in the corner she taught them to sleep in >.> ...

Oh and I don't appear to have a new broody. Legbar is her usual self.

- Golden Cuckoo Marans nest
One week left

- Lavender Orpington went broody. Because of course she did.
I think she's been trying to steal the nest, because I've seen her in there a few times. And she was quite determined to be in there today.

With there being about 6-ish days until hatch, I'm not sure if giving her one of the current eggs would be a smart idea...? I'd certainly rather give her an existing one, than add new eggs to hatch...

- The chicks
They decided they want to roost starting today! One made it up all the way with moms. The other two were trying to figure it out.
One tried to roost on the lip outside the coop... which was cute, but not ideal. It flew off before I could sneak up to help it down. (I didn't let them roost on the board outdoors.)

Please excuse the picture quality. They're very skittish and my hands weren't steady (and it gets blurry zooming in)

So, I'm pretty sure the chick on the roost is from one of the barred moms (that's either Barred Plymouth Rock, or Golden Cuckoo Marans. No head mark, so should be a pullet)
The one with the most white on it is from a Mottled Ancona
By process of elimination, the last one would be from the Lavender Orpington.

Chicks are a month old. They're hard to get a picture of as they move around so much. But managed to get one pic. (Chick is not the mottle-split chick. Which appears to have mottling!)

The moms appear to be rapidly "weaning" them off care.
They've also started laying again.

For whatever reasons, the new eggs developed but did not survive.
