Broody w/3day chicks laid egg...?

So my #2 broody who hatched out chicks 3-4 days ago, has laid an egg today. I've brought them all into the house and today, 4th day, she has left me a nice little egg out in the middle of the garage. The other chicks and all are all far too young to have laid it, I know it was her, lol.

My Q is...is this normal? I'm not worried, since she is still very protective and sits on her nest with the babies. Lays eggs out in the open, but chicks in nest.

No, this is not normal - usually it takes 3-6 weeks for a hen to begin laying after hatching chicks, You must have kept food very handy for your broody. Good job!

My 1st broody didn't lay until 3-4wks, after teaching them to roost a week before.
I didn't really have food that available, just in the coop where she was. I didn't decide her from the others. Though I did make a little pile of crumbles in her nest for her. She bit me every time and then clucked and ate happily...lol
