I have a hen who has been nesting for what seems like an eternity. She has been on at least a month or very close to, and nothing has happened. Do I let her eggs spoil on her so she makes the decision to try again some other day, or do I assume maybe there are some fertile ones in there and I just didn't calculate days right? This is her first nest, and she is a black star with brown eggs. At least 4 of the eggs are blue, and I don't recall those hens being with the roo. I don't want her to feel threatened and never nest again.

I doubt that she would feel threatened and never nest again if you took her eggs from her. I am forever trying to break broody hens, and the next thing I know, they are broody again.

Is it possible that you really have miscalculated the days? Have you tried to candle the eggs? Have you given them the sniff test? Because if an egg is rotting, you can definitely smell it through the shell. Yuck! And you want to get those out of the nest before they explode!

I really don't have any good advice for you, because I've never had this problem. I'm just hoping that my post will bump you back to the top of the list, and someone else will be able to help you.
