I have a Wyandotte hen which has been going missing for a week now all day everyday apart from about 10 minutes during the day. After about a week of her going missing I decided to investigate. I spotted her feeding and racing off towards a hedge. I followed her down into the ditch to find she has a nest of 7 eggs (unfertilised) way down in the hedge. She sat down on them and clucked away 🐓. She seems very determined but having no rooster her eggs wont hatch.
I also have a buff Sussex broody in my coop sitting on 6 bought hatching eggs. I would love to let the Wyandotte hatch a few too.

Is it safe for me to leave her to her own business in the hedge because at night since we have an occasional fox prowling around or should I move her to the coop? Will she still be broody if I move her to the coop ? Thanks
Bobby

I think she may decide to sit in the coop if you give her a really nice spot. Maybe make a fake nest with fake eggs to encourage her to sit where you want her, with nice, nesting material. Also, make sure she feels secure from any other birds or predators. Maybe even a nesting box with curtains? Yes, I would recommend bringing her in the coop overnight.

Thanks for your advice! Now we have two happy broodys :thumbsup
