I have a Wyandotte hen which has been going missing for a week now all day everyday apart from about 10 minutes during the day. After about a week of her going missing I decided to investigate. I spotted her feeding and racing off towards a hedge. I followed her down into the ditch to find she has a nest of 7 eggs (unfertilised) way down in the hedge. She sat down on them and clucked away
. She seems very determined but having no rooster her eggs wont hatch.
I also have a buff Sussex broody in my coop sitting on 6 bought hatching eggs. I would love to let the Wyandotte hatch a few too.
Is it safe for me to leave her to her own business in the hedge because at night since we have an occasional fox prowling around or should I move her to the coop? Will she still be broody if I move her to the coop ? Thanks
Bobby
