I have 4 Buff Orpingtons and 4 Brahmas, they have all been laying brown eggs like they should. Yesterday I went to gather the eggs and there was a white egg in there. Okay I thought this was a fluke, but today my daughter went n got them n came out with another white egg. Does anyone have any clue why one of my brown egg layers would be laying a white egg. Just a bit confused. None of the chickens are very old just started laying last summer.

I was just coming here to post the same question. My RIR stoped laying over the winter and just started laying again on Tuesday. One eye Tuesday and one today. They both have been "cream" color. Not quite white, but definately not brown.

Your chicken laid a cream eye?

Egg shell color normally gets lighter as the hen ages. A sudden change would be something else, but probably not anything harmful as long as there are no other signs of abnormality or illness. Egg shell color is simply pigment that the shell picks up in the last stages of the oviduct. Absent signs of poor health, I wouldn't worry about it.
