I have 5 hens all brown layer, a wyandotte, a brahma, and threee australorps. I'm not sure which butone of my hens layed an unusually large pale egg. They're all no older then a year or so. Is this normal?
I have 9 brown egg layers. Occasionally, one will lay a white egg. I just put it in with the others. I don't know that the color of the shell has anything to do with anything. After all, the color will wash off.
Brown eggs are actually white shells with a surface layer of brown pigment. Sometimes the brown pigment in not layed on as thickly, or is skipped; also, as hens lay for a long time their eggs tend to get paler in color.
