Brown Shavers???

Hi

Im new and have just joined. We have a farm with 60 Hens and one very lucky Rooster. The hens are mainly Brown Shavers and the Rooster is a Silver Leghorn. I have been told that Brown Shavers are Hybrids, made to be good egg producers but are no good for producing offpring. Apparently there young will not be great producers, can someone confirm if this is true?? Thnks for your time, and effort for all the helpful posts on the site.

Since red shavers are sexlinks, they won't "breed true" meaning they may be more or less prolific than your current flock, and not as uniform. Doesn't mean you can't breed them, just that there will be more bird to bird variances and they may not be as productive. Try it and find out, at worse you'll just be selling young layers and getting a new red shaver flock.

Cool Thanks. The new shavers arent that keen on letting the rooster have a go so i need to wait till they get used to him before i can see what happens.
