I would also add that, though my chickens may have similar space available, they are not in a flock of thousands, they are in a flock of 50. Less trampling, easier to establish order, less stress altogether.
Ideal? Probably not. Just like you, I'm working to make it better. The real solution is probably to eat more beef and lamb.
