My husband and I came to POrtland OR yesterday for the holiday weekend and some well deserved fabric shopping.

On I-84 just east of The Dalles traffic came to a dead stop and we were parked for about an hour in 100+ degree heat due to a brush fire several miles ahead right off the freeway.

When they finally let us though, this was still burning

As we passed, the inside of the car heated very fast to a very high temp. This was with the A/C going full blast and the windows up.

I can just imagine what it was like for the firefighters!

Hats off to them for keeping us safe!!

We had a small road side fire burning the other day. Prob someone thew a cig out.

Once on the way to Fl I saw a WHOLE island burning. It wasnt a huge one but the fire was HUGE! We saw the smoke about an hour before we got to it..

We fear fire more than anything here. Last year at the Telegraph fire we had crews from all over the world here including hotshots from Australia. We as part of the Sheriff's were allowed in where residents were not to evacuate animals. Fire creates its own environment - very scary at times.
Our praises and gracefulness to all fire personnel

Howdy neighbor to the North. I am about 10 miles from Wrightwood in the desert. High desert. Fire in CA is like no other and it scares me half to death if a big one starts within 20 miles.

Deb, the fire burned extensively on both sides of the freeway. The pic is what was still burning when they let traffic start back through.

This was one of our local tragedies.

My bro-in-law and sister and family were on the bypass coming home to mom's for a visit from Chicago as it was happening and saw the fire and called my other sister and asked her, "WHAT is on fire??!!!"

Now lots of fish are turning up dead and they are wondering if it isn't the run off.

I think I heard some people won't be able to live in their homes for a year or something like that.

I couldn't even imagine.

The frustrating thing is a local couple called 911 an hour before the accident and said the track was washed out.

Fire is scary no matter how big or small. They take on a life of their own! 2003 San Bernardino, CA - 1680 homes lost. Scared me half to death. We were packed.

terrielacy,
Last night on the local news they were saying that Wa. is 1 month ahead on fire season. Already been a couple small ones here on the west side. Might be a long hot summer.
