BS opals: male or female?

Slightly older BS opal
Any ideas on sex?

younger BS opal

I always had a hard time with the Opal B/S until they were a little older, the hen will be lighter then the male. The male will start to get darker.

Older is female, no question about it, younger probably male- has the fairly dark 'lacing' on back.. but also tempted to say wait a couple weeks to be double-sure. If I had to pick one answer right now- male.
