I have a 10 month old Buckeye hen who, as of yesterday, has stopped wanting to stand and walk. She can walk, I have seen her, but she seems to not want to walk very much.

What made me notice was her eating like this (Yes, she is missing feathers on the back of her head, that is being dealt with as well):

I have made a post before about what dewormers with not much avail.

The hen has very bad diarrhea as well. Today I was giving her some vitamins and she stood up and let out a large amount of very liquidy, wormy poop.

Please help me help my hen!

I would make sure that she doesn’t have any maggots on her vent or belly. Clean off any droppings, since flies can lay eggs on them. Can you post a picture of the worms in the poop? Valbazen is very good for treating worms, and dosage is 1/2 ml given orally once and repeat in 10 days. Another good one is SafeGuard 0.23 ml (or 1/4 ml per pound of weight given orally for 5 days.

I will check her.

I will the next time she poops. I believe they are roundworms.

I will check those out.
would you advise worming all the chickens in the flock at the same time?
I plan on it, I know she is not the only one with worms. It might be all the chickens in the flock, I know it is at least half of them who have worms. She is the only sick one so far, though.

Odd thing is, she layed an egg yesterday. But yesterday was when I noticed she was not okay.

So I have to give it to my chickens once a day for 5 days?
Valbazen's easier IMO. We put a band on each bird as we wormed them so we'd know who was done (we have 20), and ten days later on the repeat dose we removed the bands. We had 10 syringes and that made it easier too.

Update on the Hen:

I got liquid Safeguard for the hen today. She got her first dosing according to her weight. She weighed 3.7lbs, so I gave her 3/4 mL. I decided to round down instead of up to avoid overdosing.

When I had her on the scale, she decided to drop a LARGE dropping. There were no worms visible in it, but it looked odd. Here is a picture of her droppings, @Eggcessive

The hen seemed more aware today, looking around at everything, but she still did not like standing very much. When she stood on the scale, she stood with the posture of a runner duck, very upright instead of the normal chicken posture.

She has not lost her appetite though, she decided to dig into the scrap bowl I had on the counter.

I am going to go out and give all of my other chickens a dose of the dewormer as well. Wish me luck! There is 29 of them.

I also prefer Valbazen since it only requires 2 dosages 10 days apart, where SafeGuard requires 5 for the same worms—round, cecal, gape, and capillary worms. I would round up on the dosage instead of down. They are both very safe wormers, and a little more won’t be harmful.

You might find it less of a rodeo to worm at night when they've roosted, and safer, if it's hot. Chasing chickens around in the heat of the day can actually lead to losses due to heat prostration. I've seen it happen.

I got Safeguard because it was the one I could get at the earliest convenience. Could you send me a link to what you use?
