Hello all I’ve been reading these posts for years never really had many questions but now I got a good one. I have a buff Cochin rooster that is about a year and a half old and he won’t do anything besides lay in the back of the pen. We feed a good feed and always has fresh clean water. He is losing weight fast and does nothing but lay in the pen with eyes closed and head down. Once a day or so he will get up and nibble at the feed. I don’t hear any gasping or any problems that might be related to respiratory. No watery or discharge from eyes. No sour or impacted crop. Crop is pretty much empty. The first thing I thought of was worms so I dosed with safeguard 3 days ago and no change. Any ideas

Sorry about your rooster. He does look very weak. What was the dosage of SafeGuard did you use? Can you try to get him to drink some water with a scoop or small cup held up to his beak? Electrolytes, Gatorade, Pedialyte, Poultry NutriDrench or SaveAChick electrolytes would all be good to offer to him.

Are there any other roosters who could have kept him from food and water? How long has he been sick? Have you added any new chickens to your flock recently? Once you get himmto take some fluids and get him rehydrated, try getting him to eat some wet chicken feed, bits of scrambled egg, canned cat food, or tuna. I hope that you can save him.,
