Hey guys I was curious. I added a buff Orpington “laying” hen to my flock. Never had one before I was told she was a year a half. I’ve had her for about a week and a half. I also got another laying leghorn from the same flock as the buff. The buff has yet to lay an egg while the Leghorn has laid about 3-4 (hard to tell at first as I have 5 other leghorns. I also got an 8 month old “laying” RIR hen from the same flock as the buff it has also gone eggless. Of course taking into consideration they are in a new environment. Around a new flock. Anyone go through this before? How long did it take ? (I know every bird is different) thanks !

:welcome If they have been laying through the winter , especially if supplemental lighting was used, they may be ready for a break in the laying cycle. The change in environment has probably initiated this break. Although both Orpingtons and RIR are good layers, they are not the egg laying machines that leghorns are. Bottom line is that if the birds are indeed the ages indicated, they will lay again.

Thanks I was curious about that. Seems as if the buff had come in and “taken over” haha so I figured she was comfortable in her surroundings. Wanted to make I had not done something wrong
