Ok - I'm getting rid of Charlie, my Cali White Roo and I just saw that someone was giving her young buff roo away to a good home - the reason I'm getting rid of Charlie is he attacks my kids and he's only 5 months old. My kids are 2 and 3 years old and love to help with he animals - no aggressiveness from my kids.
? is what are the behaviors of the Buff Roos? This buff is young - probably from the same feed store so about 5 months - not fully developed yet - should I try this or am I crazy for wanting a rooster with my kids?
And will my 9, 5 month old hens accept a new rooster?
Thanks,

The hens will accept the rooster but he has to show them that he is the new "flock leader". Sometimes the hens will chase and beat up a new roo until this is established. Not all roos are mean, each roo is different no matter what breed. The Light Brahmas and Orpingtons are some of the most gentle I have worked with; or buff cochin bantam roos. This is strictly based on what I have dealt with. Having small kids sometimes the roos view them as a larger rooster and are trying to establish their territory. You are just going to have to find the "ONE" that works best for you. I also will not keep a mean roo around. They go to freezer camp if they are too mean. Good Luck!

My buff rooster can be rather aggressive but that may just him.

Every now and again I have to remind him that I'm the boss!!!

Like the last post, I may just have a more aggressive rooster than most other Orphs. Good Luck!!

I had a BO roo who was always wonderful to be around. Great to his ladies and non aggressive to me. I had to separate him for about two weeks to treat him with antibiotics, and after that, he started attacking me. He was given away on Craig's List, with full disclaimer for why he needed a new home. But I think it really depends on the individual.

My B Op roo is 5 months and treats his ladies well.
ORP, are known for their lovely gentle personality.
I have a pet
that really works for me. and with me.as his ladies are laying and hatching. He is very gentle , I petted him as I handfed him a few grains. every so often.
liften him into my arms as first he fussed but that behavior went away.and slowly he came around. and now comes when I call his name. What works for some may not work for others.
