Hello all! This is my first post as I am jumping into the world of raising backyard chickens with my family! While I grew up around my grandparents farm, I have only raised quails in terms of birds so I am learning/recalling old lessons!

I also need some help. I have been concerned for several weeks that our only buff Orpington is actually a rooster and unfortunately we wouldn’t be able to keep her (or, more precisely, him!) My daughter would be devastated as this chicken follows here around and she loves it dearly.
Based on the pictures attached, does anyone think this might actually be a pulley?? In the pictures, he or she is 19-20 weeks. We are at almost 21 weeks and no sign of a crow or eggs.

thanks and I look forward to engaging in the forum!

I’m so sorry it looks like a rooster to me but I’m not an expert so hopefully someone will correct me.

Do you have other Buff Orpingtons? Are they laying already?
This is the only buff Orpington we currently have. We started with a mixed flock.

So I have an update. Late yesterday I was outside and I heard the first three attempts at crowing. It’s official. We have a cockerel. Luckily, we have someone who is looking for a young rooster and he will be moving to a nice flock! Thanks everyone for the responses!
