Hi Guys,

so I’m pretty new to keeping chickens and I have a question that hopefully somebody with a bit more experience can help me out with. I acquired 2 buff Orpington’s yesterday (14-15 weeks old) I’m not sure if they are pullets or cocks, they also aren’t crowing.what would be the signs at this age? Also what do you all think they are?

Thanks

Buff orp can be quite late to lay. Mine didn't start until about 7 months. I think the average is 6 months.
Your hens are beautiful.
I do keep buffs. Most of my chickens have been buff orps. I love them. They're a really friendly breed.

Yes I’m finding them to be a really friendly and docile breed. Have you any pictures of yours?

Haha any pictures? Loads.
First is my rooster, Pumpkin, and then one of my hens when she was kind of a similar age to yours. And then another hen as she is now, more or less.

They lay pretty well, yeah. They do go broody quite a lot. But usually I get about 5-7 eggs a week per hen if they aren't broody/any other problem.
The boys are actually nicer than the girls though.
I find my elderly Light Sussex lays better than any of them, but she is just brilliant. We don't even eat eggs very often. We started selling our eggstras.

That’s really good for buffs then so I’ve read. And yes so I’ve been told. Hopefully I will be able to hatch some out then if one of them clock. Haha eggstras
