Building a broody safety zone?

Either nesting sites not present or a predator of some sort in disturbing the hens nesting in barn causing them to attempt nesting outside. Consider original suggestion of proving elevated nesting boxes attached to shear wall so critters like raccoons and opossums can not crawl up. Put some straw in those nest and the hens will find them. You will have to invest more effort when chicks hatch but broody hens are easy to direct in their roosting habits with chickens.

I have kept free-range games in situations similar to what I imagine you have. Some predator exclusion / repelling still required usually in the form of domestic dog(s) that patrol area. Some livestock like hogs also helpful.
