Building a new quail barn. Opinions needed.

Hello, I am building a new Quail barn soon, and I was wondering if I should do 1ft tall or 2ft tall laying pens. Would 4 quail fit in a 2x2x1 pen comfortably?
What size wire should i put on the floor for poop to fall through?

I like mine at 1'. I have built them at two feet. 2' gives them just enough power to bonk their heads when they jump up. Here are a couple of my quail cages/pens/coops. You could put 4 in a 2X2, yes. Although more room is better. Use 1/2 X 1/2 hardware cloth for the floor. Poo still falls through and this supports their little feet. I would still throw in a platform or sandbox or something so they can get off the wire for a bit. If your able to zoom, I used 1/2 '' on all these below.

Yes. Anything really. A box, a large bowl, anything. They will love it.

Wow you have really nice cages! Did you build the first one yourself? I am looking to begin a small flock in my yard and would like to have something similar.
