building an "enclosed porch" as a coop

I want to build a coop that is essentially an enclosed porch off the back wall of my garage (outside the garage, of course) so I can save money on constructing one of the coop's walls and one side of the run. If possible, I don't want ceiling joists for the girls to roost on.

The footprint of this coop will be about 6x5', with the long side attached to the garage. I know the principles of attaching a wooden deck onto a house using a ledger board and joist hangers. What would be the equivalent or similar method to create a shed-type roof with a slope of 3:12 or 4:12?

Thanks,

By far the easiest thing is to perch the ends of the rafters ATOP the ledger board, using hurricane ties or something similar to keep them from coming off horizontally. Notch or don't notch, as desired -- for something small like this it really doesn't matter and I'm not sure I'd bother, myself.

GOod luck, have fun,

Pat
