Building Basics Urban noob's question

I built my run out of wood framing. In essence, build the frame of a cube whatever size you choose (bigger is better!!). You can use 2x2's, 2x3's or 2x4's for the frame. Then attach the wire to the frame with long staples. I would not recommend chicken wire - it will keep chickens in, but raccoons, dogs, bobcats, bears etc can rip through it like wet cardboard. Where you live determines how much of a fortress you need to build! I live in the country, and have raccoons, coyotes, bobcat and bears to deal with. So I went with a double wall of fencing. On the outside of my frame, I used heavy gauge 2"x4" field fencing. This keeps big predators at bay. On the inside of the framing, I used 1/2" hardware wire to keep out small pests and to keep anything from reaching in and grabbing the birds. I attached the fencing to the frame with 2" staples from an air powered staple gun.
