Building From Scratch

Hi I’m new to chickens and my father and I have decided to build our own coop because I’d rather not spend over $1,000 on some fancy thing that will barely hold the 9 in my flock. We’ve got the outside and inside set but I can’t figure out what to use for flooring. I know if I just use wood, even if I treat it, I’m looking at a stinky mess in the future. Is there a go-to most people like to use? It’s a lofted coop so concrete won’t work.

A lot of people seem to do linoleum or vinyl (like the scrap pieces at the big box stores). I'm doing FRP board that we had laying around.

I used black Jack roofing on my floor. Painted it on the plywood. Works great protects the wood and makes it easy to scrape off any unwanted mess.

Some use blackjack roof coating to coat the floor. We used vinyl flooring.
