Someone is in the process of building a peafowl pen for me. I will be getting (2) 2 month old peafowl this weekend. Some of the materials will be from disassembled new pallets that are in excellent shape. My question is.......is there any type of (lead free/non-toxic) coating/sealer/finisher/etc. that can be used on the wood pallets to make it last longer and so that the weather does not damage it from being exposed to the elements? If so, please let me know.

I am building a VERY large exotic/safari/jungle/tropical type of pen for my newbies that will have tropical plants, etc. Thank you for any suggestions.

Yes, I will be putting netting over the top. Thanks for the link. Had been looking around online for netting.

ETA: There are several different types. What do you suggest?

Hi there fellow Louisianian! I'm in Cenla.
Just got some aviary netting from Ebay seller tootobear - someone else here mentioned the source -- best prices I've found anywhere.

Some good building ideas on the link at the top of this thread, Peacock Basics 101 -- read through that for the link to Amy's Peacock Paradise & that has several good links to pea pens. Also Andy on here -- his website is in his signature line -- Andy's Peacock Paradise -- he's just outside of New Orleans and has some good pics of his pens. Don't have any of ours yet but will be finishing it up this coming weekend, right now my six are still in the grow-out pen.

Used just regular semi-gloss paint on mine -- a couple of good coats -- it makes them so much easier to clean off.
