So i am currently building a run for my 10 hens and was wondering how far to put the fabric out from the bottom to deture predaters from digging.

Fabric? Do you mean hardware cloth?
I went 18 to 24 inches.

I laid mine out directly over the ground and pinned down the outer edges with landscape pins. The grass just grows through it and covers it.
