Hi there

I'm building my permanent coop and wonder if I need to insulate it. I live in the Greater Vancouver, BC area and it seldom gets to freezing here. The coop will be in a protected area between 2 unheated buildings also, if that is a consideration.

Thanks
Mary-Anne and the girls.

to insulate or not to insulate, thats the big question around here. some say no, its not needed they can do with out as there fine with even below temps, my point is yes you should. here are the reasons why I did and Im so glad I did.

1.. my chickens stay warm here in montana and no frozen combs, yep I have seen many who do not insulate there coops and there combs freeze,

2. my hen house is so cool inside my chickens have it better then me. I had it so insulated that its so cool inside you would not know its 90 degree's out side. and we never open the windows because its so cool in there. in fact during the hot days, my girls run for the coop. sit on the roosts and chill.

3. its easier to keep my water from freezing,

4. less noise from the egg songs lol, they can get real loud.
For me the choice was clear, when its hot out there, they deserve a cool coop, and in the winter they deserve a warmer coop.
