This morning I found a poopy mess on my hens feathers. As I cut it out, I found a big red bulge were her vent was. What can I do to help her? What is wrong with her? Here is a pic.

The photo is a little hard to see, but it looks like she has a partial prolapse.

Did she lay an egg?
Is she in any distress?

Try to clean her up, then soak her in a warm epsom salts bath, this will hopefully relax and reduce any swelling. Apply some hemmorhoid cream or honey to the prolapse and gently push the tissue back in. Offer her some extra calcium (Tums, liquid calcium) and if you have them give her some poultry vitamins too. Extra protein like egg or tuna is usually welcome in addition to her normal food.

Keep us posted.

Thank you so much! The prolapse is gone but she has been pooping oozing liquid, hopefully she will be back to normal soon!

Glad to hear the prolapse is taken care of. If she still has oozing liquid, keep an eye on this.

If she ends of having a lot of white discharge she may be developing Vent Gleet, which is a fungal/yeast infection. This can usually be treated topically around the vent with anti-fungal cream (athlete's foot cream) and by adding Apple Cider Vinegar to the water as well as giving probiotics/yogurt.
