I just need some reassurance that my 11 week old GLW is behaving within "normal" chicken pecking order behavior. I have a flock of 4 (11 week old BA, 11 week old GLW, 4 week old BO, and 4 week old RSL). I have used the MHP brooding method and so the Littles have been in view of the older 2 since they arrived 4 weeks ago. They are now co-mingling in the run and coop. The Littles have a safe area that has food and water and they still have their MHP inside the coop at night if they want it. I'm not worried about them.

The BA ignores the chicks for the most part. She will even free range near them. Last night she let the Littles snuggle up next to her on the roost until Agnes (the GLW) hopped up next to her. Then she pecked at them. Agnes will patrol around the safe "house" even before she goes to eat. She will seek out the chicks to chase and give a peck too. She waits to leave the coop in the morning until she can chase them down the ramp. She just seems obsessed. Is this normal?

As long as there is no obsessively chasing, or cornering to peck than it's normal, she's getting into the teenager stage and is expressing her new found dominance.

I agree - some of my younger hens seem to enjoy pecking my 12 weeks olds, whilst others leave them alone. From my very limited experience, it seems, in my flock at least, that mothers that have brooded chicks are more tolerant of young ones, than those that have not. One of my hens would even protect and feed chicks that were not even hers!

There will always be pecking by higher status bird of lower status birds, no matter the ages.
It's just how they do.
As long as there is no copious blood is drawn or pinning down and beating upon, don't worry about it.
Lots of space, places to hide 'out of line of sight' and/or get up and away...they'll all be fine.
