Hi everyone. I'm wondering if anyone has had this experience. Last weekend we purchased pullets. This weekend my hubby asked me to look at one that seemed to have feathers missing at the back of her head. Upon close examination I found there was a hole. The skin around the hole was raised, and turning in towards the hole, hard to the touch. The center of the hole was impressed and black, like a scab. When I palpated the area it felt as though that center black part was its own entity, detached from the skin. I brought her inside, cleaned the area and carefully pulled on the inside black thing with tweezers. After a minute of gentle manipulation, a the center black part came out attached to yellow tissue, very similar to a bumble but flat, not like a corn knob. I filled the hole with silver and have her inside. She's eating food and drinking water, seems more comfortable. Anyone have this experience? See pics:
