My African goose Moira appears to have bumblefoot. She chased off a juvenile bald eagle about 10days ago. She was lightly limping but had no visible injuries on the outside. The limping continued on and off. She ran into/knocked over a large flower pot during the eagle incident and we just assumed she pulled something, as our ducks have done...

Yesterday I noticed a bumble when I was checking her over. The nearest vet that will treat her is 2 hours away so I am hoping my husband and I can care for her at home, but if the vet is necessary I will figure out how to get her there.

I am trying to figure out how bad her foot is and if we can fix it or if we should get her to the vet.

I really appreciate any insight and help!

Her leg does not seem any warmer than her other leg.

I soaked it in Epsom salt last night for 20min then applied Vetericyn and wrapped it for the night so she could be in her coop. I just brought her inside to check on it. I am planning on continuing the soaking and vetericyn application twice a day. I read you need to remove the scab, hers doesn't seem like a defined scab I could remove. Does it look like she needs it scalpeled?? I don't know if we could or should do that.

you will need to drain it, so if a scab does not form, do cut a small hole and drain it. Then wrap it up to keep it clean, and drain again as it needs.
Should you soak the feet in empsom salts a few times before going ahead and trying to cut a hole or should you soak the foot to soften it then cut the hole on the first attempt??
