Bumblefoot on toes only?

I have a pekin that’s almost 3 years old. I got her when she was a year old in the spring of 2022, and she came with a severe case of bumblefoot on both feet. She had surgery at a vet clinic, but the vet didn’t really remove all of it. So between myself, my adult son, my husband, and the guidance of a few wonderful people here, we spent most of the spring and summer of 2022 soaking, cutting, bandaging, and treating her. Finally toward fall, she was mended. 2023 she was fine.

I check her feet now about once every 3-4 weeks. Her foot pads still look 100% healthy. But I had recently noticed a few of her toes had small, blackish scabs where the nail meets the toe.

A week or so ago, I noticed she seemed to be slightly limping. I looked at her foot pads. Still totally fine. Today she was limping markedly more. Upon checking her feet again, her pads are still great. But the toe scabs have grown. They look like mini bumbles. Is this possible? I’ve only seen bumblefoot pictures and posts on BYC with bumbles on the pads of the feet.

I will try to get a photo in the next several hours. I hope my summer is not spent like it was 2 years ago. That was purely miserable.

Thanks for listening.

Sandy

The last two or three photos are of the same toe, different angle. It’s the worst of them.

It’s kind of hard to photograph toes up close by yourself. If I need to get better ones, I can and will.

I think it would be possible, maybe she got little scratches on the ends of her toes and they got infected?

I'd start soaking her feet in warm Epsom salt water and using Banixx or a drawing salve on them give the Epsom salt water time to soften up any scab [it may take days of soaking to soften the scabs enough to pull them off] use an antibiotic ointment and wrap until healed Checking every couple days to make sure healing is going well.

Thank you. I will do what I can. She is heavy, and nearing 3 years old. I’m sure there is at least some arthritis from what I’ve read about heavy breeds of ducks. My main problem is that we have a goldfish pond about 16x30 feet. There is no way I can keep her out that is practical. I spent all spring and summer of 2022 dealing with her feet and blocking off the pond, which was a pain because of my muscovy and her determination to gain access. It was not a good many months.

I will try grabbing her when she comes out of the pond each day at least once. Her feet will be soft. I will see if the scabs will pull off, and if they do, I have plenty of supplies from treating her severe bumblefeet in 2022. Drawing salves, antibiotic ointments, Vetericyn etc. But keeping her feet dry will realistically not happen. 😔

Thanks for helping. You were there last time too! If you search for my old posts, you will see how bad it was and how great her feet look relative to that. I thought she was a goner for sure. 😊

You have nowhere to put her while treating her? I have a goldfish pond too it's not very big though just a 100 gal but I had to put a Dog X pen around it to keep the ducks/geese out of it.
