I have been soaking my pullet’s foot in an epsom salt solution and managed to get half of her eschar off. This morning we intend to soak it again, but it seems to me that epsom salt water would be painful. Can anyone speak to whether or not I should soak the now partially exposed wound in the epsom salt water, or if I should just use warm water before trying to remove the remainder of the eschar?

There are several different methods of treating bumble foot in chickens. You could check into using Sugardine or Prid drawing salve and dressing the foot as well. You can soak feet in saline, water with a little Betadine, chlorhexidene, or even Dawn. Any of those will soften the scab, where you can remove it and squeeze out any gunk inside.
Sugardine is Betadine (povidone iodine) mixed with sugar to make a paste stored in a clean container. It is painted on the scab, covered with non-adherent pad or gauze pad, and wrapped with 1 inch strips of vet wrap. Here is agood price for iodine:

Don’t get it too tight. Change it daily. Here is a good video of applying a bumblefoot dressing:

I have used prid drawing salve as recommended here. Put some on the bumble (use plenty) with a bit of gauze on after the prid then wrap it with vet wrap. Change it every other day if the vet wrap stays on ok. I did this for about a week. Worked great. I was able to pick the scab off pretty easily. Be sure to get all of the whitish infection out after scab removal. Rinse it out with Vetricyn then betadine then pack it with triple anti biotic ointment. Change bandage and repeat about every other day. I was totally amazed at how quickly my bird healed!

It really does work well!

I did soak her foot in the epsom salt solution and she didn’t mind it at all, just went to sleep :)

I will share these ideas and links with my husband and discuss. Thank you all for your advice!
