Someone dropped off four chickens at the end of our property today. My husband found them hidding. (Poor things!) However they look older and have bumpy, dry, skin on their legs. Their toe nails are long as well. (Think they were confined too much) We have other chickens, but have never seen this on the legs before. My question is, could this be scaley leg mites or could it be due to age? The bumps are not large. I do have them confined from my other chickens right now. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like scaley leg mites, but could also be due to age/confinement in cages the toenails sound like cage birds. I'd check thoroughly for mites and disease and treat accordingly. Poor chickies! I am glad you found them!

Scaley leg mites burrow under the skin of the legs and cause inflammation and raised areas. You probably won't see the mites, but you will see evidence of them. Is that what you were asking?

Make sure you isolate them from your current chickens. And make sure you wash up before touching your own chickens. Just to make sure you dont pass some thing bad to your chickies. Keep them apart and watch for signs of disease for at least 30 days..
