I’m not sure where else to post this but since there are so many different people and knowledge base here, I thought I’d ask for advice here. If this isn’t allowed, please delete.

so last night we were sitting around at a socially distant fire outdoors and my drunk neighbor stumbles over and falls head first into my stone fire pit. THANKFULLY I was totally sober, I jumped up and heaved this 240 lbs dude out of the flames, pat out the embers out but he’s fighting me telling me he’s fine and starts brushing his hand over his arm that hit the fire coals. Took me 1.2 seconds to realize he is burned and he’s rolling off skin As he brushes his hand over the burn. He was clearly 1)totally drunk and 2)totally in shock. He never once said “ouch” or really even moved once he was lying in the fire pit. It was so bizarre and I’m still in shock somewhat.

so, I called 911 once I knew I couldn’t handle this guy on my own and I didn’t have any gloves or anything to really clean the ashes and dirt from the burn. They come spray with His arm with lidocaine and clean up the burn site, he refuses transport or further medical attention even after I beg him to go to the burn center and offer to drive him.EMT gives him a stack of gauze and some tape and tells him to get to a burn specialist. I wrapped his arm up and told him not to unwrap it. Of course he did. He comes over this morning without a bandage and it looks BADDDDD

So I get some 4x4 pads, bacitracin, glove up, and smear Ointment all over his burn site, using my handy VetRap to keep the bandage in place and sent him home.
He’s convinced this is going away in a few days and keeps saying it’s “no big deal”

Can this possibly heal on its own without a skin graft? Anyone have any advice for me in helping this extremely stubborn dude? I don’t think he has health insurance and can’t afford burn care but I really think he needs help.

It hurts just to look at.😢

He will need to have the burn cleaned twice a day with Hibiclens and water or antiseptic soap and warm water. Then the wound needs to have Silvadene (silver sulfadiazene) cream put on it in a thin layer, and dressed with Telfa (non-adhesive pads) and wrapped in gauze. It looks like second degree burns, and will be painful. If he went to an ER, they would have to treat him, and then he could get the Silvadene, which is usually by prescription. It is a thick white cream, especially for burns.

***I’m not a doctor nor do I have medical training***

When my husband has been in motorcycle accidents we’ve used Manuka Honey. The wound care clinic also thought this was a good idea. My understanding is it helps with burns as well. But it is expensive and I’m not sure how severe this guy’s burn is

He needs to go to a medical professional. I know he doesnt want to but this is going to be so painful to deal with at home. They will need to scrub off the dead or dying skin in order to promote healthy skin growth and it's going to hurt like a mother.

Silvadene is prescription only, but is like a miracle in a tube/jar for burns, and wounds. Betadine solution will work to clean it too, then apply the Silvadene. Telfa pads, and one of the adhesive tapes will work to cover it too.

If you have insurance, call your doctor's office, and ask for the Silvadene. Usually, they'll call it in. It's not normally a big deal.
