Burning bush is toxic? But my ducks have them in their pen for 7 years

I have them in my flocks fenced in area too and they have been there for years. They are huge and the birds like to lay under them.

From what I read it sounds like it is only toxic to mammals. Lots of wild birds eat the berries. It is all about what systems can handle and break down the substances and compounds that the berries contain. It is just like the way that cats can't tolerate permethrin and dogs can't eat a lot of chocolate, they don't have the ability to break it down.

Do your ducks eat the berries?

I think ducks know what is safe to eat and what is not among plants. I have nightshade in my garden and it gets those "deadly" black berries after flowering. The ducks ignore them
