Hi

I live in a very bushy part of Sydney. The bush turkeys like to think that they live in our back gardens as well, and they come scratching around when I am not there to chase them away or yell at them. Most people don't like them because they cause a mess, but I really don't like them because I think they bring in more bugs and germs for my chooks. Does anyone have any good ideas about how to deal with them?

Thanks!

Here's a picture in case you don't weren't sure what I was talking about...

Have turkey for dinner several night a week, other than that, I have no idea. I would think it might be difficult to fence them out since turks are good fliers.
The wild turkey in my area do the same thing. They destroyed my garden (which I gave up on) and scratched up most of the flowers and shrubs I planted around my yard. I've started leaving my dog outside more and I haven't seen them in a while. My next step was to shoot and process them, but they haven't been back for all of that...

they have a motion activated sprinkler you could use, or hang some old CD's on strings and allow them to blow with the wind, shiny streamers etc. something to scare them off.

Hi again

and thanks for both these replies : )

I must say your reply 'how funky' made me smile, I don't really eat lots of turkey, don't have a dog and definitely am not in to the idea of shooting them except with the water pistol, but you just captured my sense of frustration! You're right - by the time I get down the bottomw of the back yard - they've jumped on to the back fence, then they fly over.

But thanks for the idea re the CDs because I hadn't thought about something practical like that. I'll give it a go and let you know.

Regards!! sss

Ha! Well, I don't think I'd actually eat them either, but they came very close! I worked so hard on my garden last spring and summer just to end up feeding a huge flock of turkeys! :barnie
If they'd have come back after they did that, I might have been up for it. I'm glad they saved me the trouble! They really are beautiful, but so was my garden. WAAAHHHHHH!
:gig
I hope the Cd's do the trick! Good luck :)

and if the cd's hanging does not work, you could take them down and play love songs for them so your neighbors can have turkeys next year too
