Just got my button quail eggs today. Opened up to find all were fine, but one. Just one broke, that a good start. Now they are sitting and I am waiting for the bator to heat up.

This is not my first time, but I thought it would help pass the time by writing about the steps that are taken to hatch these babies. The bator is a Genesis 1588. I've had it for years and it has always done a good job. I've hatched bantams and large fowl, turkeys and quail.

Just put in the 24 quail eggs. They are so small and very colorful. Fingers crossed.
I will be hand turning them.

sit back, relax and wait! and stop looking at the eggs ! you know that if you keep staring at the eggs they seem to move back and forth?

Just turned the eggs for the first time. They are sitting on a non-slip shelf liner. It helps to keep the eggs from rolling all over the place.

theese are my first button eggs my second experience hatching eggs

i put my button eggs on shelf liner also but that hasnt stopped them from rolling around! i set mine on saturday night (27th)

Everything is going fine. Just got thru turning them this morning.
The shelf liner helps me because my wire floor is not level. It has a few buckles in it. I just can't get it to lay flat. So the liner helps the eggs to stay put. Also it will keep the little feet from going thru the wire.

Can't seem to find on the calender when I set them. Guess I will have to look at the first post date.

I wonder if I should candle them. The last batch, years ago, the eggs were to dark. I couldn't see anything.

I never bother to candle button eggs. I just let them goto hatcher and go to a set time. If they don't hatch 3 days after due date I float and look for bobbers to toss and for rockers to hurry back into the hatcher.
