Button quail

How old are they? The ones you are calling lavender are probably silvers. There are a lot of knowledgable people on here that have buttons, if you posted pics they could tell you colors.

Be careful with the waterer as they drown easily, make sure if it's a regular chick waterer that you put some stones or marbles in the bottom so they cant drown in it. I've had it happen.. it's not fun.

The quantity of quail would be good to know. Not for me, but for those in the know.
I also have fish, and a 55gal. tank to fish is pretty huge, but they can occupy all 3 dimensions of a 55gal. tank when filled with water. Shellyd hit it on the head. Floor space is the main issue.
http://www.cyberquail.com is a good button quail site as well. There are some fish tank setups shown there and though the site isnt updated a lot. The message board is very active, and friendly. I think some of the same people who post here, also post there.

You want at least one square foot per bird. Subtract the space that you use for feeders, sand bath, hiding place, etc. A 10 gallon tank might be big enough for a pair, but barely.

Ok so im a bit late but anyone who is keeping their button quail in fish tanks, please move them to proper cages. Tanks do not have enough ventilation so the quail would be breathing in trapped dust, ammonia, etc which can make them sick, they cant see glass so that can stress them out, and reaching in from the top can also be stressful because that is how animals attack them in the wild. Tanks are also hard to clean so save yourself the effort.
