When they start to lay will they go broody? hatch out their own eggs and care for the chicks?

They are the ones most likely to go broody but I've only had a few who did. Of those (3 I think) only 1 hatched any chicks, the rest deserted the nest early. The 1 that hatched only had 1 hatch out of I think 10 eggs and it died within a few days. She hardly ever sat on it to keep it warm.
