The BST "how to" pinned post didn't seem to be current for how one puts up an item for sale - I don't / didn't see anything that applied to what was offered there in posting, so I just made a "regular" post as I would in other forums. Hope that was right! I posted an Omlet coop for sale, and see that no one is interested at this time.

Question - Are the rules on the BST forum that it cannot be advertised for sale anywhere else while it is posted here (I may have misunderstood the rules)? Or is it just that one cannot put a link to an outside site here (that's not what I would do)? I want to make a stand-alone ad elsewhere and would not copy that link anywhere here. I'm guessing a Facebook Omlet Group might find more interested persons. Can I keep the posting here up or does that need to be archived? Maybe no one will be interested until the Spring anyway. Thank you in advance!

You are correct in that it’s just a post in the appropriate Buy-Sell-Trade section.

You may not redirect off BYC or advertise off BYC and just link to it through a post here.

Ads should only be in the Buy-Sell-Trade section of the forum. Interested buyers can contact you through private message here.

That coop I would also post in the Marketplace on Facebook.

You could also post it in your local poultry groups there. I've sold chicks on Facebook (can't in Marketplace), and it's all how you word the post. I have my best luck in one large poultry group for my state.

I used to sell a lot in the farm forum on Craigslist too, but this past year it didn't go well. You could try your coop there as well.

OK thanks for clarifying! I had held off advertising anywhere else because I interpreted it as an “exclusivity” rule - that ads for something can only be here while there is an active post here. Your plainer language is clearer to me (and my addled brain). Thank you!

This is helpful too, thank you! I will look into all of your ideas, thanks. I’m a bit hesitant and afraid to broaden out everywhere fast because people would have to come to my house to buy this, unless I disassemble everything, pile it in my car and meet in a parking lot somewhere. So am trying to at least have mostly chicken-keepers see this first.

We live in the country, and during the summer, it's like Grand Central Station here with people coming to buy chicks. I make sure hubby is home when they come, and if he can't be, I text the farmer lady across the road and she'll keep an eye out.

She makes us park a car beside our house so the visitor's car is within her sight, and she can use binoculars to get the plate. We're both retired police, so between the two of us, we're always thinking the worst. :gig
