Hi,

New to the forum, first time poster, I hope I've got the right category. I'm looking to get a couple of hens and a coop for my back yard in Brooklyn. Before I commit to this I want to make sure I have all the required resources at hand. Does anyone have any tips as to where I can find straw in New York City.

Thanks,
James

I found this on the Web. Hayseeds big city farm supply. In Brooklyn. On India Street. Good luck

Thanks for the tip. I do remember wishing to visit this place last summer. I do see however that it was a pop-up shop and doesn't look to have re-opened this year.

Ha, I lived in Brooklyn for 3 years... Welcome to BYC!!

I would contact some of these local poultry farms or markets to see if they know where to get straw. But consider that you may have different resources for bedding in the city, such as wood shavings from lumber mills.

You could also try the Brooklyn farm and garden craigslist page, I found some wood shavings there.

Good luck, and let us know how your chicken adventures go.
