Come say hello to @Ilovemychicks08 who comes to us from Wisconsin and has been a member since April 2021.​



1. Tell us a bit more about yourself. And is there a story behind your member name?
Hi, you can call me Chicky or Lomie! There isn't really a story behind my name. I live in Wisconsin and have my whole life. I am a Christian. And I am also homeschooled. Some of my hobbies besides animals are camping, hiking, biking, and kayaking. Although my family lives in town we try to grow as much as we can, grapes, strawberries, apple trees and a mulberry tree. We usually do a small garden as well.


2. Why and when did you start keeping poultry?
I started keeping poultry about 4 years ago. I really wanted something that I could keep outside but in town which was limited. Chickens fell into that category. And after a few months of research I bought my first chicks. Later building the coop after buying them. I learned that I should have built bigger and built the coop before getting the chicks.


3. Which aspects of poultry keeping do you enjoy the most?
My favorite part besides hatching and new chicks is the unique personalities between the chickens. Each of mine have their own unique personality that makes keeping them fun. While one may love being held onto the other would rather stand right next to me and eat treats.


4. Which members of your flock, past and present, stand out for you and why?
When I first started little did I realize how much I'd love raising chickens, so I have got to have many chickens since I've started. Out of my first flock Maple the Easter Egger was so friendly, she made me want another chicken just like her. I don't have her anymore but I do wish I did. Out of my current chickens Honey my Buff Orpington, Lacey my Black Laced Red Wyandotte. And my newer chickens Muffin and Munchkin the Birchen Cochin Bantams.

5. Beside poultry, what other pets do you keep?
My family has 2 Golden Retrievers. Denver who is almost 3 and Tucker who is almost 2. And some fish that are coming soon.

I’ve never met you around here, but I have to say we have a lot in common.
I am Christian as well and I live in Wisconsin, though I lived in Minnesota for the first 18 months of my life. 😅I also love hiking and the great outdoors.
And I love fruit, so I am a forager and I’m always trying new fruits I find in the wild.
