Sooo...
Went out to bring ducklings in...gave the 2 next oldest (4ish weeks and just starting to feather) some time to splash with the bigger ones. I stayed outside and to check on them repeatedly. In pool, outta pool, in pool, outta pool. No issues. Went inside, put dinner in, back out (10 min?)...2 littles look like zombies in pool by edge. Oh no! Scooped them out. Freezing. Solid. Waterlogged. Motionless. Hugged them close and ran for the house. They were holding up heads but otherwise looked nearly dead. How did this happen so fast?!

Got a comforter. A tote. Fresh bedding. Heat lamp. And hopped on BYC! A towel dummy a towel! Quick search and boom! Dried them best I could. Wasn't sure about the blow dryer idea though. With the lamp they started shivering like they were seizing so I was concerned about shock. Got a few squirts of vitamin water into them once they seem more alert. Within the hour they were FLUFFY and chirping at me and preening. Not yet standing with any normalcy but trying. Within the next hour they were back to flipping out when I picked them up and though still a bit shivery, pretty much themselves. That was 30 min ago. I just shut the lamp off and they appear ready to go tell the flock about their near death experience.

So my point is...THANK YOU BYC and MEMBERS! Had I not found a thread ASAP to let me know I was on the right track and to give me HOPE, I still knew I could ask and would have an answer within minutes! Love the BYC FAM!

TurtleButt and Calvin thank you all as well!

No oils on down causes water logged ducklings. So glad you got them when you did and they are okay now.

:welcome
You would think I would have thought of that! They had a blast! But I should have limited their time and not left the yard! I have never seen anything look so...dead...and be fine 3 hours later!

Your an awesome first responder! Lucky you caught them, Weve all done it, Some ducklings will repeat it an others never do it

Sweet things but sheesh their needy!
Awe ty I felt so ashamed and scared. Didn't even want to post it! But then I read how common it seems to be...maybe not to that extent...and I felt such relief! I had to post so new duck mamas like me realize they are not terrible people and it CAN be fixed! Here they are 3 hours later. I did not take pics before cuz...I honestly thought I did not want pics of dying ducklings.
