I just placed an order today at my local big r store for 25 special heavy assorted chicks from Cackle Hatchery. 25 Heavy breed chicks for 17 dollars sounds like a good deal. I will also get a few pullets in 25. So it will be a good addition to my flock. So has anyone had success raising heavy breeds from Cackle Hatchery for meat? Thank you.

Are you looking for meat birds to raise and reproduce or just raise and eat? Because here's an idea of what happened to me. I bought 4 Turkeys and 8 Bantams from Ideal because the min. order was 20.00 which was covered by the Turkeys. They sent 10 RIR Roosters for warmth. 6 of the Bantams died and they sent a replacement with 15 more RIR. So now I have 24 (1 died) RIR to put in the freezer.
