calendar-idiot question: when is day 1, when is day 18?

Um well, it would help my case some if I could do basic math. I put these eggs in on 5/2, so even if I was supposed to begin counting on 5/2 they weren't due until today 5/23.

In any event I had 2 hatchers today! Nothing yet from the other eggs.... maybe they're on the "start day 1 after 24 hours" schedule.

since no one is saying anything.. sometimes if your temps are a bit high, you will have an earlier hatch day. im still confused on this too. so im hoping they really do hatch tomorrow haha:)

Well to tell the truth everyone has messed up on days before i have had chicks hatch in the turner before and they just fall out to the bottom or are setting there in the egg holders when you open the door i guess they are thinking and wanting to say to you "did you forget something" lol that been said figure it up the best you can and remember their is always a next time hatching because it is addicting

The end of the first 24 hours is Day 1. If you set them Monday at noon, the end of Day 1 is Tuesday is noon. Day 1 is that 24 hour period.

If I set my eggs today, I count tomorrow as Day 1.

With that said, I have met successful hatchers who turn all the way til the external pip and those who count to the minute and stop turning three days before the ideal hatching date and time.

Personally, even though I have my thermometer calibrated, many of my eggs pip early. Guess my females (chickens, geese and ducks) do NOT have a calendar.

I think that there are guidelines and then people find out what works best for them. I doubt that you'd have a major problem if you stopped turning 24 hours too early or too late. UNLESS the egg hatched and the baby had an accident in the turner.

If you candle on the correct day to stop turning, you should know if you've internally pipped or not. You'll get it down with practice.
